Your Green Card (Permanent Resident Card) is your most important immigration document. If it is expiring, expired, lost, stolen, or damaged — you need to file Form I-90 to get a new one. Here's everything you need to know.
When Do You Need to File I-90?
Your Green Card is expiring within 6 months
Your Green Card has already expired
Your card was lost, stolen, or destroyed
Your card was damaged and is no longer usable
You received your card before age 14 and are now 14 or older
Your name or other information on the card changed

How to File Form I-90
File Online or by Mail
You can file I-90 online through your USCIS account or mail a paper form to the correct USCIS address based on your location.
Pay the Filing Fee
The fee is $455 plus an $85 biometrics fee = $540 total. Some conditions (e.g., USCIS error) may allow fee waivers.
Attend Biometrics Appointment
USCIS will mail you an appointment notice for fingerprinting at a local Application Support Center (ASC).
Receive Your New Card
Processing typically takes 8–24 months. You will receive a receipt notice that can serve as temporary proof of status.
Don't Wait Until It Expires
File your I-90 at least 6 months before your card expires. An expired Green Card can cause problems with employment verification, travel, and other important activities.
